cupcake* magazine

Some of my drawings were featured in the latest issue of cupcake* magazine. It’s so exciting! It’s such a cute publication, I just love the idea of an online magazine. Thank you Amy for letting me be a part of the sweetness!

The pictures used are from my ‘girl’ series, which you can see here. I need to have an art date with myself soon. I have lots of ideas that need to get onto paper!

Let’s celebrate with a dance party! I’ve had this song stuck in my head alll week. It’s good autumn weather music!

Standing on the corner,
Suitcase in my hand
Jack is in his corset, and Jane is her vest,
And me I’m in a rock’n'roll band… ♪

Saturday Sweets

Happy Saturday! The weather is so nice today. I’m sleepy but we’re supposed to go bowling with some friends this afternoon. I’m really good at Wii bowling so it will be interesting to see how my skills play out in real life, heh!

  • These glasses are so pretty! We have really bad luck with glasses getting broken… It’s always the nice ones that break first too, while the ugly free glass that came with a 2L coke lives forever. We need to find a new set but it’s a long term project while B. is searching for the perfect glass. It needs to be just the right size and shape, and you have to be able to fit your hand into the bottom for washing it.
  • Photobooth clone for Windows. Yay! I’ve been playing around with my webcam and this program. Photobooth was one of the main things I wanted a Macbook for (I know it’s shallow… But that’s okay. I bought my current laptop because it was pink!). Some of my efforts:

Looking good, meatbag!

  • Fashing and The Shining makes me smile. I always thought Wendy was really cute! I remember when we studied the film at uni and everyone else in the tutorial thought she was annoying, I was offended on her behalf!
  • Since I have some external subjects as part of my course this year, I bought a corkboard to help me be organised. I’m going to do something How to make a vision boardlike this with it too :3
  • Librarian in Black is interesting. If I’m going to be a librarian I guess it’s good to stay informed, heh.

  • I’ve been thinking about getting film to use with my old SLR camera for awhile… Now I think I’d like to try playing with a Holga camera too. This is the cutest camera I’ve ever seen!

So pretty! I want that cardigan!

DIY and window shopping

I finished my first project from my list of crafts. I made two handsewn hair bows from this tutorial. Nice and simple to ease myself into things, hehe. Right now I’m about 3/4 through making a much bigger project which I hope to finish tomorrow. All I can say for now is that I forgot how grumpy I get when I’m using the sewing machine! What I need is someone to take the designs I draw and sew them for me… I love having things made but I hate sewing! Maybe Enken and I can start some kind of factory ^_^;

When I put them in my hair I just slip a bobby pin through the loop to clip it in. The big one is for ponytails and the small one is for putting in my fringe~ Maybe next I will try some different colours, or maybe try making one with lace.

Lately I’ve been thinking that instead of buying lots of cheap clothes I should just save my money and buy a few nicer things. I can never bring myself to buy expensive clothes which are badly made, but it makes sense to invest in some nice, well made things which should be better quality and wear longer. Here’s some of my favourites from my latest online window shopping…

Not that Forever 21 is Chanel or anything, but I would never buy from there since the shipping is so expensive. They should open a store here already.

I love things with crochet lace details.

And I love cardigans.

And dresses…

Every year I say I want to buy a new coat. Last year it didn’t get cold enough so I didn’t need one. But maybe this year we will have some good coat weather, and maybe I won’t be wearing my old coat which I bought when I finished high school.

So cute! I almost bought this but sadly ModCloth is on the long list of ‘cute sites with ridiculous international shipping.’ Sigh!

This reminds me of something a librarian would wear. Or a secret agent.

Online window shopping is probably the only shopping I will be doing for awhile! But looking at lots of pretty dresses is still fun ♥

Saturday Sweets

My last weekend of freedom before I become a student again! I’m so glad I had some time off before starting this new lot of study because I really really needed a little holiday~

  • This photoshoot where Mori Girl style meets The Virgin Suicides is so pretty.
  • Recently I’ve been listening to a Marilyn Manson. It’s good driving music! I was a huge fan when I was a teenager (I even have a photo of myself dressed up as Twiggy Ramierez, haha). I’m not so much into his newer music now but I still love his earlier albums. I had fun looking around on this site where a very dedicated fan has cataloged all of the references and influences in Manson’s work. I love that sort of thing! Now if only he would finish and release Phantasmagoria

  • Since I’ve been into craft and DIY things lately, I really like P.S, I made this. I love how the tutorials are illustrated too :3
  • Everyone should read The Secret History. I can’t pick one favourite book but this is near the top of the list~

Crafty

One more week until I go ‘back’ to uni… It’s been crazy and emotional and an enormous change, with lots of paperwork and meetings and running around. Who knew escaping from a PhD and getting financial support to study would be so complicated? But now everything seems to be organised and all I need to do is be as lazy as possible for the rest of the week before I have to get to work!

Along with this big life change I decided that I want to start making more things. I borrowed mum’s old sewing machine so now I can look at all those projects I have saved. Here’s some things I’d like to make:

ovenmitt

I’d use different colours to suit our kitchen… We don’t really have a colour theme now that I think of it! Maybe pink and red to match some new teatowels I bought.

totebag

I have some really cute apple-print fabric that I want to use in a bag design somehow. I think I will try to make it zakka-style (like this one) with some natural fabric as a base and use the apple fabric for details.

I adore Twinkie Chan, and making this cute broach from her tutorial is almost as good as owning one of her lovely scarves. Almost! I’m so excited that she’s making a pattern book too!

granny-squares

Speaking of crochet, I still want to make a granny square blanket. I just need to decide on the colours. I really like vintagey type colour schemes like the one in this picture. It’s funny how these types of blankets are cool again! We had a ton when I was younger because my nanna crocheted, I always hated them and thought they were itchy!

nesting dolls card 6

Okay, so this one doesn’t require sewing! But it’s really cute! I think maybe I could make one to frame and hang up in the lounge room.

And I already posted these cute and simple hair accessory tutorials… I think I need to go fabric shopping soon :3
